Flumethrin

Synthetic pyrethroid ectoparasiticide

Calculate dose
Flumethrin

Flumethrin is a synthetic pyrethroid used in veterinary topical ectoparasiticides. Livestock formulations target ticks and selected lice or mites, while some companion-animal collars combine it with another insecticide. Its particular contribution in those combinations is principally acaricidal, with additional parasite coverage supplied by the partner ingredient.

Mechanism of Action

Flumethrin modifies arthropod voltage-gated sodium-channel function and prolongs abnormal excitation of nerve membranes. Disrupted conduction causes paralysis and death of susceptible ectoparasites. Contact exposure also affects female tick survival and reduces production of viable offspring. Distribution over the host surface supports activity from the corresponding pour-on, dip or collar formulation.

Monitoring and Administration

Apply ready-to-use pour-on along the backline using the product weight table; do not dilute it as a dip.

Keep away from watercourses and prevent ingestion. Dilutions for 6%, 7.5% or other concentrates are not inferred from a 1% pour-on.

Veterinary use
