  • Depressant effect on  CNS
  • Depressant effect on  various central neuro-transmitter receptors
Indication
  • Immobilize large animals
  • Skin irritation
  • Pre-anaesthetic
  • Sedative
  • In Small animal- Anti-emetic to control vomiting associated with motion sickness
Dose

Dog @

0.1-o.25 mg/kg IM
0.025-0.2 mg/kg IV (slow)
0.25-3 mg/kg PO

Cat @

o.o5-o.1 mg/kg IM/IV
o.25-3 mg/kg PO

Cattle, Sheep & Goat @

0.03-0.1 mg/kg IM, IV, SC

Horse @

0.04-0.1 mg/kg IM, IV, SC

 

 

 

 

 

 

Contraindications
  • Not safe in pregnancy
  • Stallion with penile prolapse
  • Lactating mare
  • Horse dewormed with piperazine
  • Sighthound & Boxer breed are sensitive (cause first degree heart block)
  • Pets that have been exposed to organophosphates, strychnine, or procaine
  • Trauma
  • Shock
Adverse Effects
  • Cause low blood pressure
  • In cats, decrease tear production
  • It can cause cardiovascular collapse
