ACETAMINOPHEN

  • NSAIDs
  • Para-aminophenol derivative having analgesic and antipyretic properties
Action
  • Inhibition of Cyclo oxygenase (COX) enzyme
  • More selectively for COX-2 than COX-1
  • Anti-pyretic and analgesic effect
Indication
  • Oral analgesic in dog
  • Relieve pain
  • Fever reducer
Dose

Dog @ 15 mg/kg PO

Calves @ 50 mg/kg PO followed by 30 mg/kg PO q6h

 

 

Contraindications
  • Fatal for CAT (lack of Glucuronyl transferase enzyme that is responsible for metabolism of drug)
  • In dog if renal or hepatic disease
Adverse Effects
      • Can cause hepatic and renal toxicity
      • Hb → methHb → SulfHb
      • Haemolysis
      • Jaundice

Infusion Rapidmol - 1%w/v (100ml Sachet) IV
