Opoid analgesic

Agonish K opoid receptor

Partial agonist of mu Receptor

 

Indication

Pain, combination with metdetomidine for sedation

Antitussive for chronicnon productive cough

Visceral pain, Colic in horse

In cats, combination with medetomidine and Ketamine by IV route to induce anesthesia of short duration

Dose

Dog

0.2 -0.4mg/Kg IM, SC

0.05mg/kg IV

Cat

0.4mg/kg SC IM

0.1mg/kg IV

Horse 

0.01 -0.06 mg/Kg IV

0.013 - 0.024 mg/Kg hr infusion

For Analgesia

Dog

0.2 -0.3 mg/kg SC, IM, SC

1- 4 mg/Kg PO 4 times daily

Cat

0.2 -0.4 mg/Kg SC IM

0.1 mg/Kg IV

1.5 mg/kg  PO 6 times daily

Ruminant

0.05 -0.2 mg/Kg 

Pig

0.1 -0.3mg/kg

Dog & Cat

0.2 - 0.4mg/kg IV (loading dose) followed by 0.1 -0.2 mg/kg /hr IV infusion

Horse

0.02 - 0.04 mg/Kg IV repeated after 3 -4 

0.04 - 0.2 mg/Kg IM repeated after 3-4 hr

Antitussive dose

Dogs 0.2 - 0.5 mg/kg

Neurolept analgesia

Dog & Cat

0.2 -0.4mg/kg IM combination with medetomidine (0.01mg/kg)

 

Contraindications

Horse

Ataxia, CNS exitement, Lower respiratory diseases, Bradycardia, Vomiting, Pregnancy

Adverse Effects

Ataxia, CNS exitation

High doses - Nystagmus, Salivation, Seizure, Hyperthermia, decreased GI motility
