Action

It to reach the colon and metabolised by the resident bacteria, resulting in formation of lactic formic acetic and CO2.

it increase the osmotic pressure that is drawn the water into Bowel causing a laxative effect and also as acidify colonic contents

Indication

Laxative in a small animals

Reduce ammonia blood levels in the prevention and treatment of hepatic encephalopathy

Dose

In cats


for constipation - 1ML per 4.5 KG of body weight and dose can be adjusted as needed.

For Hepatic encephalopathy - 0.25 - 1ml PO 

 

In dog

For constipation - 1ML per 4.5 KG or bodyweight and dose can be adjusted.

For Hepatic encephalopathy - 15 to 30 ML PO four times a day and dose can be adjusted

Contraindications

In diabetic patient

Adverse Effects

Syrup contains some free, lactose and Galactose that may alter the insulin requirements

Lactulose solution - 10gm per 15ml, 30ml, 240ml, 473ml, 480, 960, 1893ml

Lactulose crystals 10gm, 20gm
