  • Combining with protozoal DNA causing DNA to unwind and denature & interferes with DNA synthesis
Indication
  • Antiprotozoal spectrum: babesia, cytauxzoon, hepatozoon, anaplasma, Ehrlichia.       Babesia (canis, gibsoni, caballi)
  • Intracellular tick borne pathogens
  • Babesiosis, anaplasmosis, Ehrlichiosis, cytauxzoon folis infection
Dose

In cats not used

Horse @ 2.4 mg/kg IM

Cattle & Buffalo @ 3-4mg/kg IM

Dog @ 6.6mg/kg IM SC Once (Repeat in 2-3weeks)

 

Adverse Effects
  • Low therapeutic index
  • Mild cholinergic signs
  • Anaphylaxis
  • Pain at injection site
  • Hepatic and renal impairment
